ADVENTURES OF A FOOD BLOGGER

The Battle of The Burgers...Vegan Edition!

Battle of the Burgers…Vegan Burgers to be exact!

I stopped eating beef a long time ago, long before going vegan. I was one of those people who believed that eating chicken and turkey instead of beef made me healthier. That’s what I had seen in so many news reports. It was the hardest sacrifice in life that I ever had to make. I loved burgers, and there was nothing, in my opinion, more satisfying than a good old burger and fries. I tried them all too--McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy’s, Jack In The Box, Sonic, Whataburger, In-N-out, you name it. I tried them all, and loved them all. It was hard to go wrong with a burger.

When I went vegan, I decided to incorporate veggie burgers into my new vegan diet, hoping that I could find one that might pass for beef. I set out on a mission to find the best vegan veggie burger there is. Lucky for me, the search didn’t take long. On my third try, I found the best veggie burger on the planet-A burger that tastes just like BEEF.

My first stop was Red Robin on just my third day of veganism. I was only going here because I couldn’t think of any food that I wanted to eat that would also fit into my vegan diet. Shockingly, all of the trendy salad and green places that I visited were relying on a lot of chicken and dairy to make their products flavorful. I figured I would just eat a lot of Red Robin’s bottomless fries and settle for an edible fake burger. I will give the Red Robin veggie burger 3 stars, only because the best burger definitely deserves to have 4 stars in isolation.

My next stop was the grocery store aisle dedicated to vegan and vegetarian products. Yes, we are lucky here in Phoenix to have grocery stores that offer vegan products. It wasn’t many, but it’s something. I picked up the BOCA vegan burger, not to be confused with the veggie burger which contains egg whites. I went home and grilled up the burger patties, only to find that they were soon dried up and hard as a rock. I still ate them anyway. I laid on my fix-ins, which included vegan mayonnaise, pickles, lettuce, tomato, onion, and ketchup. The toppings and grill flavor gave it a burger taste, but the texture was not what I expected. I did not get that juicy, meatiness that I craved. I will confess, that if I had to settle for the BOCA burger, I would but it is not my first choice.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ WINNER!
A few days later, I actually went back to get more BOCA burgers but the grocery store was all out. So, I decided to try a different brand. That’s when I accidentally stumbled upon the most delicious vegan burger patty. It is so good that I see no need to continue my search. The winner of the Battle of the Burgers (Vegan Edition) is the Yves Gluten Free Veggie Burger. This burger tastes like a real beef patty, tender and juicy. I grilled my patties with a dash of salt, pepper, and garlic powder on medium heat for 10 minutes on each side and a splash of vegan Worcestershire sauce. These burgers taste like the real deal and are highly recommended, whether you are vegan or not!
