The obvious draw to Washington, D.C. is the historical and national relevance. It is the capital of the United States. With that being said, be on your best behavior in the nation’s capital and be prepared to be under the watchful eye of heightened security.
My first trip to Washington, D.C. was during my 8th grade class field trip. Things were much simpler back then. so simple that me and my classmates were allowed to roam the national mall unsupervised. It was a bad idea then and an even worse idea now. I have fond memories of us harassing a congressman, which we found out later was against federal law.
In my twenties, I made a few trips passing through whenever I visited my mother who lives in Richmond, VA.
A few years back, I attended a Baltimore Ravens home game on a freezing Christmas Eve in nearby Baltimore, MD.
Fast forward to 2016, I made my first trip to DC in years, passing through again for the night on my way to New Jersey from my mother’s home in Virginia. It was not a good time. I was handling business for my father’s estate. He had just recently passed away.
It was my fiance’s first time and I was pleased to show him what our nation’s capital had to offer. Besides the amazing history, D.C. was hot, humid, rainy and the TRAFFIC was horrible.
